It is an enormous change. Before, a wand attack from a caster may only do 2 damage. Now it does 9 (used to have -3 from rune, -2 from Knights, -2 from shield). Any warrior running an increased armor build usually takes less than 10 damage per hit (except from armor ignoring sources). So this effectively about doubles all elemental damage for armor based builds. This also severely weakens if not disables solo farming elementalists mobs. I don't think warriors will pull anything off like the IDS build ever again, where it was possible to tank an infinite number of ice imps indefinitely.

This nerf was needed though. A smart warrior who adapts his build to a particular mission is invulnerable. I have tanked many enemies including those dreaded elementalists bosses while having -10 degen in the Waking Waters mission without any trouble at all.

Well, damage reduction has just been destroyed. It's a completely non-viable armor choice now, essentially reducing the Warrior's choice of armor sets to two.

I'm not referring to the change so that the damage reduction only applies to the body part where you're wearing it; that makes sense and should have been changed. But it's only against physical now? Utterly useless.

My Warrior in her Ascalon armor is not happy.

If this was a bug Anet never stood one way or another on the issue. Then over a YEAR later they decide to change it. If its been going on for over a year and wars are not that difficult to deal with why change it now?

Why don't we reduce the healing on monks and see how people like that. Or take away their energy managment. Wars need that -dmg to do their job. Without it other classes can do their jobs much better *ranger* with better armor.
The bolded portion is exactly and I repeat exactly what I wondered as soon as I saw the update listings.. Why now? Propechies has been out of 1 year+ and DR had always been like that.

I wouldn't be as frustrated as I am now if I had the money to adjust my armor, but I just don't. Anet, if you would give me 30k, then I'd be a little more calm.

I'm not as mad about the actual damage reduction as I am about losing around 200k because I had FoW Ascalon Boots.

If I understand correctly:

Anet only recently developed the technology to change already existing items. They did it for various items, most especially to bring pre-Factions armor in line with Factions.

So, go back a year, when existing items remain the same and only newly created items use the new stats...and apply this change to damage absorption.

Now you have people with one piece of armor that provides global absorption and people with newer armor who need the full set to get global absorption. This is a bit unbalanced. They could fix it anyway, or leave everyone on a level playing field.

None of the new armor helps a war do his job that's why its not used.

+5 energy from Glad chest and leg help because of 2 energy pip and low pool.

KD gloves give 1 second to KD skills: shock, gale, Bull's strike/charge, ect....

Knights/Ascalon helped him to survive longer allowing the war to overextend to spike monks and gank the base.

Glad chest and leggings I don't think will ever change. That +5 energy is too important.

+10 def while stance does not help him stay alive longer than a -2 dmg reduction would because its a local affect. The glads chest and leggings are going to take most of the beating.

+10 hp doesn't help him suvive longer.

Sentinals has a 13 str req that will restrict you on points allocation.

No matter how you look at it nothing was better than that -2 absorption because none of the new options helped the war stay alive.

Default Warriors! We are forgetting something here...

Yes, we got the nerf bat with the armor/shield change. However, while it's nice to have the damage reduction, we are forgetting that several of our STANCES provide 75% blocking/evasion. That means regardless of elemental damage, we are still able to block or evade 75% of attacks. Wands, swords, etc. Spells will still hurt without our -/- shields, but by using stances, we will be more easily able to manage the extra damage in most cases.

The runes protect against the same damage which you can block 75% of already.

The runes don't protect against spells.

Stances have too long of recharges to be used effectively. Bonetti's is the only stance than can be used with a short recharge. You can gain 8 adrenaline in less than 15 seconds in most cases. While the closest stance to that has a 30 second recharge.

For PvP that is just about useless. Warriors where never a threat to warriors.

I meant old and new Knight's/Ascalon armor. Like, before June, if Anet had changed those armors to not provide global reduction, that it's entirely possible that the already extant pieces still would provide global reduction. This would create an unbalanced environment, so Anet wouldn't nerf the global reduction until they could alter all the items that already had it.

Yeah I have six PVE chars that are modded for PVP and I feel that everything was fine before the update, now warriors are picked on waaaaayyy too much. I think that blackout eliminating all of your built up adrenaline is gimp enough but this update freakin blows out the kneecaps of warriors. A freakin assassin attacking will live longer than a warrior with glads... I find this very disturbing.

People can adapt and still be pissed off.

I'm STILL gonna wear three pieces of AL 90 +10% and two pieces of AL 80 +20% + energy.

I'm STILL gonna use a -5(20%) +30health Exhalted Shield.

and I'm STILL gonna use the same axe as always (which thank god in elemental dmg based.)

and I'm STILL gonna play like an intelligent human being.

and I am STILL gonna hate the dmg reduction change.

In addition, I never thought I'd ever actually agree with twicky_kid on anything. This is just further proof of exactly how bad an idea the DR change was...
